Organised Tours and Experiences
Hospitality Plus Scotland will organise a variety of tours and experiences tailored to the requests and interests of our guests. We will share our local knowledge and expertise to ensure you have a unique holiday break in Dumfries and Galloway.
You will be able to enjoy tours of Dumfries and Galloway in South-West Scotland and experience the history, culture, wildlife and scenery of our beautiful, unspoilt region.
We are also be able to help you to trace your family history, enabling you to walk in the footsteps of your ancestors.
Tour packages may include Bird Watching, Castles and Abbeys, Cycling, Fishing, Gardens, Genealogy, Golf, Photography,Robert the Bruce, Robert Burns, Solway Coast, Walking, Water Sports and Whisky Tasting.
Tours may be guided or self-guided. We feel that some of the tours would benefit from being guided as we would be able to share our local knowledge. Why not relax and enjoy being driven around our beautiful region.
For our overseas visitors we would be happy to make suggestions for short city breaks and tours of the Highlands for the rest of their holiday in Scotland.
Sample Tours 1
We provide a personalised service and have a variety of tours which can be organised according to our guests’ interests and requests.
- Tours can be organised for specific interests e.g. Gardens, Castles, Genealogy, Golf etc
- Sightseeing, guided tours can also be arranged.
- Some tours can be for half a day or a full day.
- You will be driven in comfortable, luxury cars (Lexus and BMW).
- Prices have been calculated presuming there are four people in the car so may change slightly according to circumstances. This will be discussed at the time of booking.
- If guests wish to extend their tour there will be an additional charge.
- There are also concessions for Senior Citizens.
- There will be a certain amount of flexibility with times as we wish our guests to enjoy their tour and get the best value from their stay in Dumfries and Galloway.
- As our guided tours are tailored to meet our guests’ needs, prices may change slightly but hopefully these sample tours will give you an idea of approximate costs.
Solway Tour 1 (Morning or afternoon, approximately 3 hours)
Our guests will be picked up from their accommodation at 9.30am and driven by car to the picturesque village of New Abbey. While in New Abbey you will visit the 13th Century Sweetheart Abbey and also the 18th Century Corn Mill. Morning coffee/tea will be taken at the award winning New Abbey Tearoom. There will be time for guests to browse this lovely, historic village. Guests will be returned to their accommodation in time for lunch at approximately 12.30pm. There will be some flexibility should guests wish to stop en route to take photos or enjoy the scenery.
This tour can also take place in the afternoon with guests being picked up from their accommodation at 1.30pm, returning to their accommodation at 4.30pm.
The price for this all inclusive tour starts from £35 per person. Concessions are from £33 per person.
Solway Tour 2 (whole day approximately 7 hours)
The second tour will be as above. However, from New Abbey our guests will be driven along the scenic Solway Coast to the small village of Kirkbean where they will visit the cottage of the founder of the US Navy, John Paul Jones. Instead of morning coffee/tea at New Abbey our guests will be provided with a light lunch, either at New Abbey or at the local pub in the small fishing village of Carsethorn.
Guests will be driven to the RSPB Nature Reserve at Mersehead where our guests can walk through the reserve and along the beach or observe some amazing bird life from hides. They will also visit the picturesque, coastal villages of Rockcliffe and Kippford. Both locations allow our guests to walk and enjoy the beautiful Dumfries and Galloway scenery. Afternoon coffee/tea will be taken at the Loch Arthur Farm Food shop.
For this trip guest will be picked up from their accommodation at 9.30pm and returned to their accommodation at approximately 4.30pm. We can only give approximate times as guests may wish to make frequent stops during the day. Our intention is to make as much time as possible for sightseeing.
The price for this all inclusive tour starts at £70 per person. Concessions are from £65 per person. Drinks other than tea and coffee must be bought by guests.
Crichton Gardens and Caerlaverock Castle (morning or afternoon, approximately 3 hours)
Our guests will be picked up from their accommodation at 9.30am and driven by private car to the Crichton Gardens. We will explore the gardens and grounds of the Crichton then have morning coffee/tea at the Aston Hotel.
We will then drive to the medieval Caerlaverock Castle where guests can watch a video about the siege of the castle, browse the small museum as well as explore this fascinating castle. This castle played a huge part in the Scottish Wars of Independence. Guests will be driven back to their accommodation in time for lunch at approximately 12.30pm.
If this tour is taken in the afternoon, guests will be picked up from their accommodation at 1.30pm and returned at approximately 4.30pm. There will be ample opportunities for guests to stop to take photographs or just enjoy the scenery.
The price for this all inclusive tour starts from £30 per person. Concessions from £28 per person.
Crichton Gardens, Caerlaverock Castle and Caerlaverock Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (approximately 5 hours).
The above tour can be extended by visiting the Caerlaverock Wildlife and Wetlands Trust. Instead of morning coffee/tea a light lunch would be taken at the café at Caerlaverock Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust. Guests will be returned to their accommodation at approximately 2.30pm.
As this is a personalised service organised to meet your requests, there will be many opportunities for our guests to stop to take photographs. Our aim is to ensure that our guests have an enjoyable visit to our region while being driven around in comfort.
The price of this all inclusive tour starts from £50 per person. Concessions from £45 per person.
Castle Douglas (whole day, approximately 7 hours)
Our guests will be picked up from their accommodation at 9.30am and driven to the picturesque and historic town of Castle Douglas. Our first stop will be at Threave Castle built in the 14th century by Archibald the Grim, Lord of Galloway and was also the stronghold of the Black Douglases, one of the most powerful families in South Scotland and supporters of Robert the Bruce. Although ruined, the castle has an awesome tower house, the equivalent of a 10-storey block of flats and is certainly worth a visit. The castle is situated on a island and when you ring a bell a boatman will take you across to the castle. The castle is administered by Historic Scotland.
From Threave Castle we shall travel to Threave House and Gardens. There are 64 acres of gardens which provide stunning displays throughout the year. Threave House and gardens is a National Trust property. The gardens were voted second in The Independents’s “10 Best Gardens to Visit in the UK.” Guests will have a light lunch at Threave House and then have time to explore the gardens.
From Threave Gardens we shall head for the town of Castle Douglas, known as the “Food Town of Dumfries and Galloway.” Guests will have time to explore this lovely wee town. Afternoon coffee/tea will be provided then our guests will have had time to browse the many independent and artisan shops, including food, crafts and antique shops. After this free time guests will meet at the Sulwath Brewery where they may sample the locally brewed beer. However, alcoholic drinks are not included in the cost of the trip.
You will be driven back to your accommodation, arriving there at approximately 4.30pm.
