VisitScotland/Scottish Viewpoint

We have several tours of the Solway Coast.  Our first Solway Coast tour starts in Dumfries and makes a loop through the villages of New Abbey, Kirkbean, on to Dalbeattie and back to Dumfries.  This trip can be driven or self-driven and can last a half or a whole day.

Visitors may wish to experience the following:-

The picturesque village of New Abbey where you can visit the 13th century Sweetheart Abbey with its romantic history and an 18th century working Corn Mill.  Having lunch, morning and/or afternoon tea in the award winning tearoom is a wonderful experience.

Outside Kirkbean, on the Arbigland Estate, you can visit the home of John Paul Jones, founder of the American navy.  This is a must for our American visitors.  Nearby, is the coastal village of Carsethorn where you can eat or have tea, coffee or a pint of ale in the local pub if you wish.

Further along the coast you can visit Mersehead Nature Reserve, home to a variety of birds and wildlife, including pink-footed and barnacle geese.

Stopping at the beautiful coastal villages of Rockcliffe and Kippford is a must where walks for different abilities can be organised.  A delicious meal in a local seafront pub is a must.

This is an excellent tour for visitors who have limited time and wish to get a flavour of our region.  Let Hospitality Plus Scotland share their local knowledge and guide you round this coastal route.  This will save you the stress of driving on our attractive but ‘narrow’ roads!
